Ireland is an island off the coast of Britain, both
of which are off the coast of continental Europe. This island
has been separated from Europe for at least 5000 years, and has
its own unique set of flora and fauna.
Once covered in forests, centuries of timber use
have rendered it relatively deforested, revealing rolling hills
of legendary green, as well as stony coastal cliffs and sandy
beaches. Small burns and rivers thread through the center, while
a few modest mountain ranges pop up through the edges.
Most of the larger cities are on rivers or on the
coast, such as Dublin, Waterford, Belfast and Galway. Important
trade and smuggling ports such as these fueled much of the industry
in history.
