To attempt to stave off
the confusion of names, realize that these labels are very important
to the native countries involved!
British
Isles: The islands off the coast of the European continent
that include England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, the Isle of Man,
and smaller islands such as the Shetlands, Orkneys, Guernsey,
etc. This is a geographic term, describing the islands, not the
government.
Great Britain: England, Scotland
and Wales. This is a government term.
United Kingdom: Great Britain
(which includes England, Scotland and Wales) and Northern Ireland
